Russia is a vital partner in the program Boeing 787

Boeing will exhibit its 787 Dreamliner in the MAKS 2011 static display, bringing the new airliner to Russia for the very first time. The 787 made its international debut a year ago at Farnborough and in June it flew to the Paris Air Show. Moscow will be only the aircraft’s third appearance on the world stage. Sergey Kravchenko, President, Boeing Russia/CIS, talked to ShowObserver about why having the 787 at the Moscow Air Show is so important.

— Mr. Kravchenko, what influenced your decision to bring a 787 to MAKS?
— I believe that without Russia’s contribution, this airplane would not have been created. Russia is a vital partner in the program. Hundreds of Russian engineers have worked on the design of the Boeing 787. There are reports that the nose of the 787 was created in Moscow – and this is true because approximately one-third of the complex nose section was designed in Boeing’s Moscow Design Center. In fact, all of the titanium elements – this is a composite airframe but with a titanium backbone – are manufactured at our joint venture with VSMPO-AVISMA, Ural Boeing Manufacturing. So, we are very excited to present this airplane to the Russian industry and Russian aviation enthusiasts. It will arrive in Russia straight out of the flight test program.
