Russia’s first modular patrol ship
Zelenodolsk Shipyard is demonstrating at Army 2016 forum a scale model of the Project 22160 patrol ship developed by Severnoye Design Bureau.
Sources at the shipyard have commented for Show Observer that this will be Russia’s first modular warship; it will carry different weapons and equipment depending on the mission at hand.
The primary roles of Project 22160 ships will be to protect territorial waters, patrol economic areas, combat smuggling and piracy, and assist with search-and-rescue operations. The ships will carry radioelectronic, sonar, and ECM equipment.
According to the manufacturer, the ships of the type will have a displacement of around 1,500 t, a maximum speed of 30 kt, and an endurance capacity of 60 days. They will be manned by 80 crew. Their CODAG powerplant will produce 25,000 kW of power.
The shipyard has laid down four of the type, including the lead ship. Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Bahrain have expressed an interest in buying such warships.
