UTair Aviation: "We are facing a capacity crisis on our main routes"
UTair Aviation, the third largest Russian carrier in 2012, is taking delivery of new aircraft this year. In an interview with Show Observer UTair’s General Director Andrey Martirosov describes the airline’s fleet expansion plans.
— UTair received its first two Airbus A321s this summer. How are you going to use these aircraft? Will they replace other types in your fleet, or have you taken them on to build frequencies on certain routes?
— We have received two of the type and will take two more deliveries by the end of the year. After that, for the next two years, we will be annually receiving eight such airliners. We are not buying them to carve out a new market niche; rather, it is a planned fleet replacement program. We are facing a crisis of economy-class capacity on our main routes. This is why we decided to go for greater-capacity aircraft. The A321s will replace our 40 Boeing 737-500 and 737-400 models.
