"UAC and Rostec’s component suppliers pursue poorly aligned interests"

Rostec controls a significant portion of Russia’s aerospace enterprises. Managing Director for Aviation Projects Alexei FYODOROV speaks about the state corporation’s plans to develop this aspect of its operation.

— What is Rostec’s strategy with regard to its aerospace assets?

— The corporation controls a significant portion of Russian aerospace companies specializing in the development and construction of helicopters, aero engines, instruments, and aircraft systems. These used to be dozens of isolated design bureaus and production facilities not related to one another either legally or administratively. The vertically integrated holdings that we set up have begun coordinating operations both among themselves and with the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), which unites all Russian aircraft developers and manufacturers. This gradual work is far from done. In the military aviation sector the process is better organized, because the restrictions on foreign participation and on the use of foreign components in combat aircraft prompts UAC and Rostec to work closer together.
